LEARN THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT GROWING FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

To be an expert may take years of study; but to avoid the big, costly mistakes that most people make when growing fruit and vegetables; is able to be achieved through this 20 hour course.
If you haven't studied this subject before - You cannot afford to not do this course.
It may well not only produce more from your garden, but may also save you a lot of time and money.

Tips for Healthy Vegies

  • Grow vegies in a sunny spot - if your veggie plot is has some shade leafy and root vegetables will grow best.
  • Provide good drainage - if you have clay soil or if your site is in a low-lying area then prepare a raised growing bed 30cm above the natural ground level.
  • Fruiting vegetables like chillies, eggplant, cucumbers and tomatoes need full sun - but tomatoes prefer some shade from strong sun in the middle of the day.
  • Beef up the soil with plenty of organic matter to provide adequate food for your vegies before planting out seedlings or sowing seeds.
  • Apply a liquid feed every couple of weeks once fruits appear.
  • Don't pack plants too closely together - they'll compete for nutrients and won't get enough airflow around them to reduce humidity.
  • Cut away and dispose of any dead or diseased plant parts to minimise the risk of diseases spreading.
  • Avoid monoculture - plant a diverse range of species. Try companion planting.

Maximising Your Harvest

Some vegetables can only be harvested once. If you pick a cabbage, it’s gone. But other vegies can be continually harvested for months. If you don't have a lot of room:

  • Grow vegies that take up relatively little space but which can give lots of produce e.g. tomatoes, chillies, cucumbers, and eggplants.
  • Grow crops which have a long growing season but which don't take long to reach harvest-able size e.g. radishes, lettuce, beans and spinach.
  • Replace crops you harvest now in spring with a summer crop e.g. swap peas for cucumbers.
  • Plant both early and late fruiting crops of the same type e.g. several different tomato species.
  • Plant seeds every few weeks so crops are at different stages of growth and maturity.
  • Make the most of walls and fences for climbing crops e.g. peas, beans, cucumbers and tomatoes.
