ACS has developed a new category of course this year, adding to its already extensive stable of online training programs. Experiential learning tasks are found in our short online courses. Our courses have been developed with knowledge gained over 47 years of teaching people through distance education.
These are learning journeys that take the student through a series of lessons which have the following features:
-
- They start by presenting a lesson aim, so students know up front what the goal of that lesson is.
- Information is presented in concise notes throughout the lesson
- Learning tasks are scattered throughout, which prompt students to move from their computer and engage with the information they have been reading, but in a different context.
- Interactive online Q & A tests are tackled at the end of each lesson, which further reinforces the learning of important information.
- Students finish each lesson with a bullet pointed list of take away key points; revisiting and reviewing the most important things that should be remembered from that lesson.
- Every course includes at least two videos developed to highlight and deepen the learning of the most important information in that course.
- Every course also includes an assignment which is completed, submitted, and returned to the student, further deepening the learning.
- On conclusion of all lessons, the student sits an online assessment of 70+ questions, which on passing, leads to awarding a certificate of completion.
These courses are designed to be able to be completed in 10 hours; making them ideal for CPD or staff training. They are ideal study options for anyone who needs or wants to improve a skill but is pressed to find time for study.
There are courses that are shorter, but if you want to learn anything properly, and remember it well into the future, that does taker time. Short term learning happens when you encounter information once and only in one context. To embed learning into long term memory, you need to engage with information multiple times in different ways and different contexts; and that is precisely what these courses are designed to achieve.
